Inde: le Nonce Apostolique responsabilise et encourage le staff médical

The papal nuncio in urged medical personnel to protect life in the face of what he sees as the increasing threats from man's greed and selfishness. Archbishop Pedro López Quintana made that appeal last weekend when inaugurating a pediatric unit in the Catholic Medical Center , Koirengei, near Imphal, the capital of the northeastern state of Manipur. The nuncio said that the Church's institutions aim to foster, protect and promote life as there is so much abuse and destruction of life carried out in health institutions around the world.
"Life is God's precious gift to us and only God can take it back. However, man's avarice and selfishness destroy life and work against God's design for life," warned the papal representative, according to the Indian episcopate's ICNS information service.The prelate inaugurated a six-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit along with a six-bed pediatric unit. N. Biren, a member of the state legislative assembly who attended the inauguration, said that the Catholic Medical Center , through its outreach programs, is the only private health care institution that goes to rural communities, where basic health-care facilities are nonexistent.  www.zenit.org 20051026
